When the Outlaws first moved into Germany in 2000, it was a crowded place already, biker-wise. The country’s history of skinhead gangs, its military tradition and the storied decadence of cities like Berlin and Hamburg made it a natural place for bike clubs to expand. The Angels had been there since 1970. The Bandidos followed a short time later. By 1983, German police had already grasped what they were dealing with. When they went after the Angels in Hamburg that year, five hundred officers took part in the takedown.

Germany is the birthplace of the Black Pistons, which started as an Outlaws puppet gang in 2002 but has since turned into something more like a paramilitary arm of the club. To my knowledge there has never been an informant within their ranks. They expanded very quickly and have a presence in several countries, including the U.S. and Canada. Now they are solidly in Belgium and the U.K. and even have a chapter in Poland. Like Hitler’s storm troopers, who had to swear an oath to their leader, so do the members of the Black Pistons swear to their masters. When they get their patch they must recite this creed:
